Frequently asked questions Do I have to have a good voice? Not at all! Our Choirs are open to anyone regardless of their experience with singing or choirs. You will never be asked to sing on your own and our learning materials mean that you don’t need to be able to read music to join! You may have sung in the Royal Albert Hall or you may have only sung in the shower: all experiences are valued equally. Your Choir Leader will know how to work with a group of people with a mixture of experience and ability to ensure that everyone feels fulfilled and your choir sounds great. What resources are included? At your free taster session, we’ll have everything you need ready and waiting for you. Once you become a member, you’ll have access to our online rehearsal room, which includes all resources you need to learn with us. This includes lyric sheets for you to print and practice tracks you can download and sing along with. We keep our learning resources online as this helps keep our subscription costs as low as they can be and helps us do our bit for the planet by becoming a paperless organisation. If you think this will be a barrier for you, please speak to us. How do I know where to sit? Our choirs rehearse in sections (Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses). If you already know what your voice type might be, that’s great! If not, don’t worry - your Choir Leader will talk to you about the right area of the choir to sit in. We ask choristers not to save seats as we are a welcoming and inclusive group. We’re all here to have a lovely time and make new friends, so if a seat is empty, you’re welcome to sit in it. If you have any issues finding a seat, just speak to your Choir Leader. Do I have to take part in performances? Not at all! These are always voluntary: but we really encourage you to have a go as we believe performing is an important part of the learning experience. The sense of fulfilment and achievement that comes from a performance is unique so please don’t hesitate to chat to your Choir Leader if you’re feeling nervous about it - we don’t want you to miss out! Do I have to be able to read music? Nope! For the majority of the time, our choirs use lyric sheets only. However, there may be instances where your Choir Leader gives you the option to use a musical score. In these cases, your Choir Leader will help you learn the basics of how to follow the music and what the different symbols mean in the sessions. But, there’s no obligation to use them but we encourage it when appropriate as part of your learning experience. I have some additional needs, am I welcome? We are an inclusive organisation and aim to be as accessible as we can, but we recognise that this is an ongoing learning process for us and we will do everything in our power to help. We welcome anyone with additional needs but we do request that you drop us a line ahead of your free taster session so that we can make sure it is as positive and inclusive an experience as it can be. Information you share with us will always be treated in the strictest confidence. What causes do you support? We support causes that are important to our choristers, both locally and nationally. We never expect choristers to donate to any cause we are supporting unless they particularly want to. We also have our ‘Charity of the Year’ scheme which is voted on by all of our choristers. How much does it cost? Everyone is entitled to a free taster session. After that, there are two options: most people choose to pay monthly to be a member of one of our choirs, which costs £16.99 per month. However, some prefer to pay yearly, which costs £199. If this is a barrier for you, please get in touch. How do I pay? Sustainability is important to us - it’s part of our ‘For Good’ ethos. Therefore, our choirs run on a subscription model , paid by card and is a bit like a gym membership. This is NOT a Direct Debit. Choristers pay for their place in the choir rather than paying per session they attend. This ensures that the choir is able to run as normal and basic running costs are covered even when some choristers are unable to attend. Unfortunately, we do not accept cash. What does my subscription pay for? Your subscription pays for the ongoing cost of running your choir for 48 weeks of the year. This includes things like venue hire, insurance, your Choir Leader’s time and expertise, musical arrangements, song licenses, and much more. As a not-for-profit, we always try and keep our subscription costs as low as they can be, and we are obligated to reinvest any profit we do make back into the company: improving your learning experience and expanding our reach in local communities. THE GOOD WORKSHOPS The GOOD Workshops were a series of 20 outdoor singing workshops that took place over the summer of 2021, kindly funded by the Arnold Clark Community Fund. With locations across Wales and England, over than 500 people came and sang their hearts out!

Frequently Asked Questions What’s the deadline to order at the reduced price? Make sure you get your t-shirt order in before 11.59pm on Friday 13th May 2022 to get the ‘Basic’ t-shirt at the reduced price of £7! Please place orders directly through our online store. I bought the t-shirt for the reduced price - how/when will I receive it? Firstly, thank you for ordering! Your choir leader will deliver your t-shirt to you at choir as soon as they are printed, so please expect them to arrive in choir in June 2022. How do I know I’ve got the right size t-shirt for me? Included in the photos of the t-shirt is a sizing guide. Please measure yourself carefully, and if you fall between sizes you may want to go for the bigger size. Please note that we do not accept returns on t-shirts, so please take extra special care. My t-shirt isn’t the right size, how do I return it? We’re sorry, but we do not accept returns on t-shirts. Why are the t-shirts £7 for a limited time only? For the first month, we have secured a deal that brings the upfront cost of a t-shirt right down to as low as we can possibly make them. As this is our first foray into merchandise, we anticipate that a large number of t-shirts and badges will be ordered, and one way of keeping this cost down for our choristers was to handle all sorting and distribution in-house. However, moving forward this is unsustainable for us as an organisation as we do not have the resources or appropriate space to sort and store these products. Therefore, after the first month we will move to a ‘print on demand’ service for t-shirts, which will be handled directly by a third party company called ‘My Needs Are Simple’ for a slightly increased price per garment. How will I get a t-shirt once the price has increased? We recommend taking advantage of this lower price while you can, but if you aren’t able to then you’ll still order t-shirts through our online store but you will receive them via the post. After the price increase your choir leader will no-longer be responsible for fulfilling your order, nor have any knowledge of or dealing with your merchandise orders. Do I have to buy a t-shirt? Not at all! However we would like everyone to have at least a pin badge as part of our gig attire. You are welcome to wear the pin badge with your own black t-shirt if you prefer (or you might want to have both!). If you don’t want either please speak to your choir leader. I’m not able to access the store, what should I do? If you’re having trouble accessing the online store, then please let your choir leader know. What about other merchandise like hoodies, v-neck t-shirts… etc.? Watch this space! In time, we’ll be adding lots more exciting products to our store, including multicoloured hoodies, different styles of t-shirts, and other paraphernalia! We’ll let you know as soon as we add anything so please make sure we’re not going to spam! What is ‘print on demand’? ‘Print on demand’ is exactly what it says on the tin: a company will only print when there is demand! This type of printing allows for much smaller quantities to be made, and the third-party company we will be working with will handle everything. Are Choirs For Good making profit on merchandise? Yes - however, Choirs For Good is making a negligible profit on both our basic t-shirts and our pin badges. As we are a social enterprise, any profit we do make is constitutionally obligated to be reinvested into our organisation. Who are ‘My Needs Are Simple’? ‘My Needs Are Simple’ are Welsh print on demand garment printers based outside of Cardiff in South Wales. Gwlad! An Online Celebration of Wales Off the back of the success of our award winning ‘A Broadway Christmas’, our partners, The West End Of Wales Orchestra invited us to close their sensational concert ‘Gwlad - An Online Celebration Of Wales’. The concert was held on St David’s Day - 1st March 2021 - and featured an incredible line up including HRH the Prince of Wales, Rhod Gilbert, Lucie Jones, Only Men Aloud, Sir Bryn Terfyl and Katherine Jenkins to name but a few! Once more, we had singers join us from across the world, this time for an afternoon rehearsal in February 2021, where we taught the Welsh National Anthem in 4 part harmony. Choirs For Good joined the stellar line up to close the concert alongside West End superstar John Owen-Jones, (Les Miserables & The Phantom of The Opera ) and the fantastic West End Of Wales Orchestra. Mr Owen-Jones led us in a rousing rendition of ‘Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau’ the Welsh National Anthem - take a look below, we bet you’ll be singing along like you’re at the Rugby! PROJECTS We don't just run weekly choirs... We also run projects that help us bring the joy of singing to more people across the country and help us fulfil our social aims and objectives as a social business. To date, we've reached well over 1000 people across the UK on some amazing virtual and physical singing experiences, working with the likes of HRH the Prince of Wales, Bryn Terfel, John Owen-Jones, Kathryn Jenkins, and Jamie Barton (to name but a few!).
